(20/07) Top five result for Scud after tough Eastern Creek return

SCUD RACING has firmly established itself as a consistent top five contender despite a difficult sixth round of the 2008 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship at Eastern Creek held between July 11 – 13.

Despite a challenging weekend that ended in damage, the team continued to make progress with the Dallara F307 – Mercedes Benz car that the team took delivery of just two days before the opening round of the championship in February this year.

The team only began to get data from the car at the most recent round at Phillip Island, where driver Stuart Kostera was a consistent top three contender for a majority of the weekend.

At Eastern Creek the West Aussie didn’t have the same luck – qualifying eighth for race one and seventh for the second, before dramas on race day set the team back further.

In race one Kostera and National Class driver Mathew Radisich came together at turn nine, sending the Scud entry to the back of the pack and out of contention for a potential top five result.

That top five result proved possible after a strong driver forward by Kostera in the second race as he moved to fifth place in the race in a strong performance.

The team returns to the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in August – a track where the team knows that it has the performance potential to win races.

”We are consistently inside the top five now and the guys are coming to grips with the car,” Said team owner Bill Maddocks.

”Our car has the wide-track Manor (motorsport) suspension which is OK for circuits like Phillip Island or Mallala, but it doesn’t seem to like Eastern Creek or Oran Park. We’ll probably revert to the standard Dallara rear end for the full championship next season.

”Aside from that things are progressing well. The team is looking at getting a driver in the 301 car at Phillip Island ahead of expanding the program once again next year. We’re continuing to build.”

Round seven of the Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship will be held at Phillip Island between August 8 – 10.
